The general public is welcome and encouraged to attend the Habitat events briefly described below.
Habitat for Humanity of Central Iowa had applied for and received approval from Habitat for Humanity International for a $25,000 matching grant.
Seven churches in Ames partnered to present "It's a Wonderful Life --the Musical" based on the Frank Capra movie. Performances were held December 14, 15 and 16 at the Ames City Auditorium. All proceeds were donated to Habitat for Humanity of Central Iowa.
Through the effort of several churches, community support and talented volunteers, $50,000 was raised to pay construction costs of the Colo home for the Cerka family.

A Habitat home was once again featured on the Holiday Home Tour. The tour was held on December 1 and 2. A portion of the proceeds were be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat staff, board members, volunteers join the partner family, and other community members in this short ceremony held at the site of their future home. In addition to the introduction of the partner family, there is a short devotion and ceremonial groundbreaking.
This celebration marks the completion of another Habitat home and the house keys and Bible are handed over to the to-be-homeowner. The entire community is welcome to join Habitat staff, board members, and volunteers the partner family and their advocate on these happy days.
Volunteers are happy to give community members a 1-hour tour of a house under construction at any time. These tours include the history of Habitat for Humanity of Central Iowa, facts and figures that demonstrate the need for affordable housing, and the stories of our homeowners, partner families, and volunteers.
This annual bike-ride and walk fundraiser is a great celebration complete with food, music, door prizes, and of course some exercise! There is usually a 3-mile walk as well as several different bike routes ranging between 8 and 80 miles. This is a fundraising event and riders and walkers are encouraged to find sponsorships. There will be prizes for both team and individual participants in various categories, such as greatest amount raised, greatest number of sponsors, and youngest and oldest participants.
